Our Son, Vinnie

December 2008

  • Tue, Dec 30, 2008 7:35 PM

We took Vinnie to the doctor's today as we were worried about his eating. To recap, I tried to wean him and then he started refusing bottles and then he refused to nurse, etc, etc. And then I called the doctor's office and a nurse told me he should be getting at least 24 ounces per day and I was panicked as he wasn't getting that.

By the time we went to the appointment today, we've followed Vinnie's lead and he has gone back to nursing and still is not a huge fan of bottles. The doctor told us not to worry about ounces but to pay attention to his mood, wet diapers and wet mouth. As long as those were all good, then he is doing fine.

So, I feel better having her tell us this stuff anyway.

Oh and it didn't hurt that Vinnie has gained weight since his last appointment. He is up to 18 pounds 13 ounces.

Vinnie is happier, but still not 100%. I only say that as he took 4 NAPS today! 2 before lunch and 2 after lunch. I was convinced that he would be up later tonight, but at 6:45pm he was cranky so I put him to bed at his regular 7pm bedtime.

Yea! Vinnie is doing better and is heading back to daycare today. He hasn't had a fever since 3am yesterday. His mood isn't back to normal yet, but I am certain we'll get there soon.

Vinnie is still not feeling well. He has had a low grade fever on/off all day and has been rather grumpy about the whole thing. I doubt that he will be going to daycare tomorrow either.

On a side note, Vinnie has had his 2nd reaction to wool tonight. I had on a wool sweater today. When I returned home from work, he fell asleep on me and when he woke up, the side of his face that was on my sweater was a deep red and was swollen. It looked ugly! I was worried it was going to blister.

So, for now, no more wool sweaters when holding Vinnie.

Vinnie still has a tempurature this morning, so Brian is staying home with him.

I spoke too soon. After being fever free since @9am, Vinnie's fever went up right at bedtime. I gave him Tylenol and he appears to be sleeping soundly for now.

Vinnie seems to have a rather impressive immune system already. He had this bug a shorter period of time than both Emily and Kristen. He woke up with a low-grade fever and I gave him Tylenol. That wore off hours ago and he has no fever now and he is back to his pleasant, happy self!

Well, it looks like Vinnie is catching the same thing that Emily and Kristen have had. The poor little thing only ate and slept today.

He had a fever most of the day and just was not himself.

    Poor peanut.

Debbie:  That poor little guy has had a tough few weeks. Maybe this will explain the bottle strike. Give me a call with an update when you get a chance.

The doctor checked Vinnie out yesterday and his ears are fine. No clue why he wouldn't take his bottles. Just hoping he decides to next week.

Vinnie is on a bottle strike for some reason. He only took one bottle at daycare yesterday. And today? He took NONE?!?! I don't know what is up with him. I brought him home and he nursed just fine.

Vinnie is actually starting to grow hair! Have I posted this already? I'm so excited that I may have posted it twice.

And it is so cute right after his bath as it stands straight up on end. It will be interesting to see what happens as it growns more. Will it just grow up?

Vinnie is back to his happy little self. I picked him up from daycare today and they reported that he was back to himself. He had a great day there!

And he is still LOVING his solids. Well, except the cereal. He can do without the cereal and be happy.

His new thing is that he rocks back and forth when he is sitting ... like he is trying to get somewhere. Brian is convinced that he is going to crawl in the next month or so. If Vinnie continues to feel the same way about tummy time as he does now, he won't be doing any crawling.

As of his doctor's appointment on Thursday, Vinnie has been eating 3 square meals per day and loving it. When I tried this before, he really had no interest so I decided to hold off. But now he is loving it.

    Breakfast: cereal and a fruit
    Lunch: fruit & veggie
    Dinner: fruit & veggie

Doctor said that he will probably outgrow his car seat in about a month. I shouldn't be surprised seeing how big he is, but Emily wasn't out of hers until she was 1 year old so I was just figuring he would be the same. But doctor said he will be too long for it when he is about 28 inches long ... and he measured 27 inches long at the appointment.

    Well, that explains it.

Vinnie has double ear infections and is on antibiotics.

Well, we woke up this morning and Vinnie seemed back to his normal self. Smiling, talking and in good spirits. I spent the day thinking it was a blip on the radar when I went to pick him up from daycare and they said that he was a "mess" all day.

Poor guy is still out of sorts. I got him home from daycare and he had a low grade temp. He isn't as unhappy as last night, but still not himself. The Tylenol brought down the fever and he was in decent spirits.

He has his 6 month doctor's appointment tomorrow so I am glad that he already has an appointment and can get checked over.

Poor little Vinnie ... he is not feeling well tonight. He cried and cried and cried. So completely out of character for him.

We don't know if he is getting sick or if this is a reaction to the first full bottle of formula he had today. He's had an ounce here and there, but had a full 6 ozs today. He could have an allergy to the formula.

Or he could be getting sick.

We hope he sleeps well tonight and is feeling better in the morning.
