Our Son, Vinnie

February 2009

Brian took Vinnie to the doctor's office today to have his ears checked again because we (I) weren't convinced that the antibiotic was working. He still isn't eating well and is sometimes rubbing his ears.

But the doctor says that they are healing, so that is good. We are staying the course.

He did say that sometimes this antibiotic causes upset tummies in babies and that may be why he isn't eating as much.

We have been working on "signing" with Vinnie - the same way that we signed with Emily when she was a baby. For the first time, Vinnie signed "more" last night when I was giving him snacks. Is anyone surprised that Vinnie's first sign has to do with getting more food?

And then today daycare reported that Vinnie did the sign for "milk" for them today.

Vinnie's doctor started him on a different antibiotic yesterday and he appears to be better tonight. He is a much happier baby again, so hopefully this will be the answer.

As you might have seen in the video, Vinnie is crawling now! I knew he could do it, but he wouldn't do it. Until tonight. He started at Emily's eye doctor's office tonight when I set him down. He crawled right over to a shelf and pulled down a basket of toys. Then he was doing it all over the floor tonight!

Exciting and scary all at the same time!

Last night Vinnie was sitting beside me and Brian was in the kitchen telling me a story about leaving Vinnie at daycare in the morning. He said that he was waving "bye-bye" to Vinnie and Vinnie was just sitting looking at him, but then Brian noticed that all of the babies were waving to him.

I was watching Vinnie and figured out that anytime we were saying 'bye-bye' in conversation, he was moving his hands to wave.

I guess he just didn't like showing off with the rest of the class.

In other news, Vinnie's ears still appear to be bothering him. I have a call into the doctor now and am awaiting word on whether they want to see him again. I will keep you posted.

Oh and this morning, Vinnie proved again that he can crawl but is just chosing not to. I was sitting on the floor with him while I put on my make-up. He wanted the make-up that I had put out of his reach, so he just crawled right over to it. If I put a toy out to entice him to crawl, he just lays there and complains that he can't get to it. But make-up? The stuff he isn't supposed to get into? He is on that like white on rice.

Poor Vinnie ... he has a double ear infection yet again. I took him in this morning as he has been tugging on his ears and wasn't eating much (although he was sleeping great). And, yep, both ears are infected and his eye is red and puffy and she thinks that he might be fighting the beginnings of a sinus infection. So he is on a stronger antibiotic just in case it is a sinus infection as the regular old amoxicillian wouldn't help the sinus infection.

Oh and I toured the other daycare center yesterday and did not like it, so he is staying right where he is.

Vinnie has started clapping and giving kisses. He did it for the first time last night. So cute! Daycare told me today that they have been working on waving, clapping and blowing kisses.

I know I keep saying this, but I swear Vinnie is getting close to crawling. Watching him today he is almost there. He is bringing at least one leg forward now. I'd say "it won't be long now" but I've been saying that since the end of December.

And we got a call today that the original daycare that we wanted to send Vinnie to has a spot, so now we have the tough decision of deciding if we are going to move him or not. I am going to take another tour of the new center on Friday to help with the decision. We'll keep you posted.

We moved Vinnie's crib down to the lowest level tonight. He has figured out how to pull himself up ... well at least to his knees, but we are not waiting for him to get all the way up to lower it.

Pamela Lyall:  Good move!! Wait until you hear his bed shaking from him jumping up and down in it!! His hair looks lighter is those updated pictures-he sure is growing up way to fast for grandma!
    Love you!

Vinnie's new thing is to sleep so much during that day that he wakes at 4-5am and is ready to play. There is no getting him back to sleep. Today he was up, had a bottle, played while I worked out, ate cereal & fruit with Daddy and had a nap all before 7:30am. *yawn*

I love that he is taking good solid naps, but wish he would take better naps at daycare so he doesn't come home and want to sleep from 4-6pm. He is back asleep again today, but I'm not letting him go long today.

We are wondering if Vinnis is ever going to crawl?!?! How can he be this close for such a long time?

Vinnie is trying to pull himself up now. He is working hard at the coffee table. He gets up on he knees and gets his chin up and tries to grap at stuff. But then he starts sliding but he leaves his chin there and tries to hold on with all his might. It is somewhat entertaining to see the chin slide further and further down and you hear him work hard to stay.

Vinnie is officially crawling ... backwards!!

He cannot get going forwards yet, but he is going backwards. He started it yesterday and was perfecting it this morning. And wants to be on the floor constantly. Even rather than being held. So I think he knows he is close and he wants to practice.

He is already into EVERYTHING. What is it going to be like when he can get where he wants to go?
