Vinnie has officially mastered steps now. Well, going up them anyway. He will climb up them and then decide he is done and will just plop himself back like he is going to sit down. I shutter to think what would happen if he tried to do that when someone wasn't behind him. But he thinks he is hot stuff.
I was worried about his ears and speach development and was mentioning it to Brian last week. The next day Vinnie started saying two new sounds. Go figure!
The poor guy has a cold now. He started it last night. You could hear the congestion settling in about 11pm. Needless to say, nobody got a lot of sleep. Brian is home with him as he had a low grade fever this morning (and was cranky)!Comments:Add a comment:

Vinnie is ornery! On Friday night I saw that he was chewing on something when he was on the floor of our bathroom. I fished out a wooden screw cap out of his mouth. We figured one fell out from the wooden decor around the garden tub.
Well, next morning ... same exact scenario. Fished another wood screw cap out of his mouth. And this time we knew there wasn't one on the floor as we had just combed the entire floor the previous evening.
So, Vinnie was pulling the wooden screw caps out of the wall and chewing on them. *sigh* Thank goodness he didn't choke.
So, we had to go around and pull off all of them so that he can't get to them.Comments:Add a comment:

I took Vinnie to the doctor's again to have his ears checked. He hasn't been fussy, but he is constantly rubbing/scratching at his ears and he went from eating mostly finger food, to taking practically none. So I decided to check.
Good news is that he does not have an ear infection. "Bad news" is that his ears still look abnormal. However, the doctor said that they can look abnormal for up to a month or 2 after an ear infection. This abnormal state still has fluid in his ear that won't drain, but it is not infected. He is at risk of infection and we are to take him back in if his demeanor changes.
She thinks that he is rubbing at his ears because he hears the crackling or popping that is present when you have fluid in your ear. He would be having that a lot. Same with foods. Since he has to chew the table foods, he would get more of that noise/sensation and he may not like it.
But this all could clear up on its own. Or not. Since he is still in the range of normal, we just wait until the first of May and then I'll take him back in. (Or if he gets an ear infection again she will send us to an ENT at that time). If the ears still look abnormal in May, she will refer us to an ENT as the concern is that he is living life like he has "cotton in his ears" and it would impact him developmentally.Comments:Add a comment:

This weekend Vinnie had some struggles with this whole "I can pull myself up" thing. He thought that was a really fun thing to do over and over again (in lieu of napping even), but he could not get back down once he pulled himself up. Aaahhhh! He was frustrated and, eventually, I got frustrated too. LOL Especially when he was supposed to be going to sleep and instead he would pull himself up on the side of the crib, play for 30 seconds and then start screaming in frustration.
However, yesterday was the day that he learned that he could lower himself down on his bottom and the world did not end.
So happiness abound for all of us in the Donato household.Comments:Debbie: It's the little things like that which bring so much joy and contentment to everyone in the house! Parenthood....
BTW, after a session between Jack and me yesterday that ended him up in bed @ 7 p.m., Nicole asked me, "Mom, is it hard raising kids?".Add a comment:

Vinnie is pulling himself up on things now ... as of today! It was funny as I put him up at the table and I was sitting beside him. A few minutes later he was making a "look at me" type of noise and I look up and see him standing at the other side of the table - but he was grinning ear-to-ear and looked like he was going to burst. It was then that I realized just a moment ago he was sitting on the floor playing with a toy and now he was standing up!! He was so proud of himself.
He has since repeated it over and over again and even pulled himself up on the side of the chair.Comments:Add a comment:

I do not think Vinnie is going to be an early walker. If you hold his hands up, he doesn't take steps yet.
However, tonight he was pulled up to the coffee table and wanted the wii remote on the other side of the table, so he walked his way over to the other side.Comments:Add a comment:

Vinnie went to daycare today, but I don't think he was thrilled with the whole setup. First of all, he did not take one sip of a bottle the entire time he was there today. He didn't take an afternoon nap. And he was just a mess by the time I picked him up.
However, he came home, drank 4 oz and then slept for over 1.5 hours. He ate a great dinner and then took another 4 oz before he went to bed. Not an optimal amount of liquid, but compared to earlier in the day it is better.
He was clingy in the evening so I can tell he doesn't feel well, but I do think he is getting better. He felt a little warm tonight, but didn't register a fever. So I think he made it fever free all day - which is an improvement.Comments:Add a comment:

Vinnie went in for his 9 month checkup today. He is 21 pounds and 28.5 inches long. Surprisingly, this is only 50th %tile.
He is doing great with all of his milestones and his development. He is right on track. No issues, no complaints.
Unfortunately, he is still sick today. He's had a fever on and off all day (well, the off was due to Tylenol), a runny nose and is just overall not feeling well. The poor thing is just miserable. I hope he turns a corner soon and starts to feel better.Comments:Add a comment:

Well, Vinnie did not have a fever throughout the night and did not have one first thing this morning so he is at school. I checked in on him around 11am and he was napping and they said he was fine.
Poor baby fell off Emily's bed this morning. Bad Mommy is not used to this newfound mobility and wasn't watching him close enough. He appears to have bumped the bottom corner of his eye as it was a bit red. I had a horrible time letting go of him today to go to school. I can't wait to pick him up and see how he is doing.
He goes to the doctor's office tomorrow morning for his 9 month appointment. We'll keep you posted.Comments:Add a comment:
