Thanks to all that came to the party yesterday to celebrate with us. I think I can honestly say that Vinnie had a wonderful time. He loved being the center of attention and has spent the day playing with his new toys.
Here is a link for those that didn't see them on Facebook: http://picasaweb.google.com/jcdonato/BrianVinnieBday?authkey=Gv1sRgCJOelIaDxZ3NPA&feat=email#slideshow/5341783093334934370

Vinnie went to the doctor's today for his 1 year check up. He is doing great. He weighs 22 lbs and is 29 1/2 inches long. He is about 35%tile for height, weight and head size and doc said that the goal at this age is to get them proportional for all 3 and he is already there.
He is right on developmentally and there are no concerns. And the best news of all ... HIS EARS ARE CLEAR!! He is finally free of ear infections. We need to schedule to go to the ENT in six months.
Vinnie got his big toe pricked for an iron test (his iron levels are great!). And then he got 4 shots - 2 in the leg and then 1 in each arm. To say he was unhappy was an understatement.
He is so fun right now though. He is becomming such a little person. We went to COSI on Monday and he wanted to walk around (holding our hand). He was happy as all get out. But he was so cute because anytime we walked by anyone or they walked by us, Vinnie would wave to them. But his wave is so funny as he puts his arm straight up in the air and then waves his hand. Too cute!
He is still working on walking. He keeps getting closer and closer. He loves to try. He pulls himself up on the couch or table and then tries to walk from there ... over and over again. He'll get it soon!Comments:Add a comment:

Vinnie really, really wants to walk. It is preferred method of getting around, he just doesn't get far. But he is spending more and more time trying. He will pull himself up at the coffee table, get himself stable and then take off walking. He's taken a lot of steps in a row! More than I've been able to keep track of regularly. I just get so excited that he is actually walking that I forget to count.
He was impressed with himself this afternoon when he took a few steps over to a ball, squatted down to pick it up, stood right back up, righted himself and took off walking again. He was smiling the whole time.Comments:Pamela Lyall: I CAN'T WAIT TO SEE HIM NEXT WEEK!! CANNOT BELIEVE HE WILL BE ONE!!Add a comment:

I wasn't previously worried, but after tonight I certainly have nothing to worry about concerning Vinnie's eye sight. We were at Emily's softball game and Vinnie kept wanting down, so I'd set him down. But he wasn't happy with that. After some period of time I decided to put him down and hold his hands while he walked and he took off! He walked over to the field behind us and at the end of the sidewalk there was a wiffle ball. That was what he wanted the entire time. This kid just loves balls.
Of course, he walked all the way over and picked up the ball only to have the little girl that owned it take it away from him. But he started screaming in protest and she said that he could play with it. LOL
Speaking of that, Vinnie is developing quite a temper. He'll let you know if he doesn't like what you are doing or suggesting. Oh does he let you have it!Comments:Add a comment:

Poor Vinnie can't catch a break ... today I took him to his follow-up appointment from his ear surgery. He is still having problems with his ears ... both are infected.
Doctor prescribed heavier duty antibiotic drops and an oral antibiotic. We give him these for 10 days and go back to see the ENT in 2 weeks.

I forgot to share ... I picked Vinnie up at daycare yesterday and he took 2 steps before falling yesterday.
Baby steps ... quite literally.Comments:Add a comment:

Vinnie continues to love books ... well, specifically "How does a dinosaur learn his colors?" He was up for some reason last night around 4:30am and he was just miserable. Just fussy and crying - but couldn't be settled. I think he was just thrown off from the lack of sleep yesterday.
But I tried to rock him to sleep and he spotted the book on the table beside the rocker and started reaching for it. I picked it up and he immediately calmed down and layed back ... and even giggled as I started reading it. LOL I ended up reading it twice and then put it down, which lead to an unhappy Vinnie - but it was time to go back to bed!Comments:Add a comment:

Vinnie is feeling better today. Thank goodness! He is back to his happy self. He is still on the antibiotics and we are running the cool mist at night to help the cough and between the two he no longer sounds like he is going to split in two when coughing.
It is fun to have him back smiling and playing. He is loving the book "How does a dinosaur learn his colors?". I bet I have no less than 20 times in the past 3 days.Comments:Add a comment:

Poor Vinnie ... he went back to the doctor's today as he has a horrible, horrible cough. One of those dry, hacking coughs that just shakes his whole body as it does it. :-( Doc diagnosed him with an upper respiratory infection and put him on antibiotics.
He also noted that one of his ears is still really infected. He said there was so much in there that he couldn't even see the tube in it. So we are irrigating his ears in the hopes to get it drained and cleared out.
Poor little guy. He can't catch a break this spring.Comments:Add a comment:

Vinnie has developed a real love of books. He loves it when you read to him and will sit still for a book. It is so cute as everytime you turn the page, he looks at the picture and giggles. It is really fun to read to him.
